REC2018 - Institute for Risk and Uncertainty

Under the theme “Computing with Confidence”, this workshop will bring together engineers and scientists of all kinds from across industrial, academic and governmental institutions who face uncertainties in their modelling, simulation, assessment and design problems. With its multidisciplinary character, this workshop provides an ideal platform for cross-fertilization. The program consists of invited speakers and proffered papers, all of which in the past have been delivered in plenary sessions.

Welcome topics for submitted papers include approximate reasoning, Bayesian analysis, confidence computing, constraint analysis, design under uncertainties, expert elicitation, fuzzy sets, Gaussian processes, imprecise statistics, interval computations, measurement uncertainty, Monte Carlo simulation and allied methods, polymorphic uncertainty, possibility theory, probability bounds analysis and p-boxes, rare event modelling, risk communication, robustness, Dempster-Shafer theory, resampling methods, sensitivity analysis, surrogate models, validation, and verification and other topics related to assessing or predicting the reliability of engineered structures and systems.

REC2018 is the eighth biennial meeting in the Reliable Engineering Computing series. Previous workshops have been held in the United States, Germany, Czech Republic, and Singapore. The workshop this year is hosted by the Institute for Risk and Uncertainty at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. Liverpool, which has been transformed since it was named European Capital of Culture in 2008, is a vibrant, friendly city of nearly half a million people. A world city for over a century, its extraordinary history and rich inheritance in music, architecture, museums, and sports makes it a top tourist destination in Europe.
